How to Ride Toy Story Mania!
At Toy Story Mania!, there is a Lightning Lane and a Standby Line. There is no Single Rider Line.
If you’re planning to use the Standby Line and want to avoid a long wait, you should get in line within the first two hours of park open in the morning or ride this one during Early Entry, if possible.
As one of the most popular rides at Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Mania! regularly has waits over one hour, with the busiest times of the day seeing waits upwards of 80 minutes.
If you miss out on the lower wait times during the early morning, you may have better luck hopping in line in the last hour before the park closes for the day.
This also gives a great opportunity to also see Toy Story Land all lit up at night, which we definitely recommend. The string lights Andy puts up in his backyard for all his toys are very pretty to capture in person and for photos.
When available, eligible guests can also hop in line during Extended Evening Theme Park Hours.
Do I need to use Genie+ at Toy Story Mania?
When it comes to Lightning Lanes, this ride is a popular choice, but don’t make it your first Genie+ selection of the day. We would recommend instead booking Slinky Dog Dash first.
Toy Story Mania! Genie+ reservations are generally available to book throughout the day. So although we do think you need to experience this attraction, you do not need to make it a top priority to reserve first thing in the morning.

Rider Switch/Child Swap
Since there is no height requirement for Toy Story Mania!, Rider Switch is not offered here. This is a ride most kids will love, especially thanks to the game-style aspect.
What to expect when you ride
Queue
The queue for Toy Story Mania! is a longer one, but the decor and theming inside is is incredibly nostalgic.
The entire queue is indoors which is a nice break from the Florida heat. There are plenty of Toy Story references to be discovered here along with nostalgic games like Etch A Sketch, UNO cards, Lincoln Logs, View-Master reels, and TinkerToy.
Make sure you pay attention to all of the details, because they are all intentional and so fun. The queue features a large Mr. Potato Head animatronic that interacts with guests, singing and telling jokes.
You’ll pick up your 3D glasses in the queue, as well.
There is also an interactive queue that guests can enjoy courtesy of the Play Disney Parks app, where you can help some of your favorite Pixar pals create a Toy Story Mania! playset. So be sure to have the app downloaded ahead of time to help your wait time go by faster.
Ride Vehicles
Each ride vehicles holds 4 people, with the 2 riders seated back-to-back with the other 2 passengers. There is a lap restraint that you will also pull down for safety purposes.
In front of you, you’ll see the spring launcher that you use to shoot the moving targets you will see in the various carnival games to get points. Similar to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, your score is recorded on a display screen as points are won. Targets can have points value from 100 to 5,000 points.
The ride vehicles swivel and twirl while moving between the games, sometimes at a quick pace.
Accessibility Information
When riding, guests in ECVs must transfer to a wheelchair. There are special ride vehicles that can hold a wheelchair rider. Audio and video captioning are available.
Speak to a Cast Member for more information if that is needed for your party. Service animals are permitted with caution. Expectant mothers and those prone to motion sickness should not ride.
Motion Sickness
Toy Story Mania! is a fun ride, but at times it moves quickly with lots of spinning and turning along the route. Those who are prone to motion sickness on similar rides should take caution. We have a guide on motion sickness that’s filled with information and tips.
On the Ride
If you’re hoping for a surprise when you ride Toy Story Mania! for the first time, there are spoilers ahead!
After boarding and securing your safety restraints your ride vehicle takes off. Your first stop is the Pie Throw Practice Booth where the toys show you how to fire your shooting cannon and get points. This is just an introduction, no actual points are earned here, so don’t tire your arms out too much in this round.
You twirl into the first official scoring game “Hamm & Eggs” for some Farm Fresh Fun. This is an egg throwing game featuring none other than Hamm and the loveable Buttercup.
“Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts” is up next. This is a dart throwing themed game that replaced Bo Peep’s Baa-loon Pop on May 10, 2010. Get ready to pop to win. Be on the lookout for 500 and 1,000 point balloons towards the bottom of the screen.
Sir Yes Sir! at the “Green Army Men Shoot Camp,” where your mission is to throw baseballs at Andy’s mother’s plates breaking them for points. Be ready to aim for the stars which is the center of the plates.
Up next is “Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers” ring toss game. This is the most tricky game of them all. You toss rings and try to get them around those little Green Aliens. It’s harder than it looks!
The final game is “Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery.” This is a suction cup shooting game. There is a last chance bonus gold mine scene where you can gain a lot of points if your speed is fast enough! Hit the target in front of you repeatedly until the time buzzer sounds.
Your score is totaled up and the winner of your car is displayed on the screen before heading back towards the station to unload.
Is Toy Story Mania! Kid-Friendly?
Toy Story Mania! is a family-friendly attraction. It has no height restriction so it is good for all ages. Just keep in mind that it has some fast twists and turns that could trigger motion sickness.
If your little ones like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, they will definitely like Toy Story Mania! as the ride concepts are very similar.

Strollers
Before getting in the queue for Toy Story Mania!, you’ll have to park your stroller in the designated area since they aren’t allowed in the queue.
Since Toy Story Land is such a kid-friendly area, there are plenty of places to stow your stroller, including the area in front next to Toy Story Mania!
Don’t forget to take all valuables with you before hopping in the queue and its always a good idea to cover your stroller, especially in the summer months as brief rain showers to heavier downpours often occur.
History
Toy Story Mania! was first announced during a press conference at Disney World in January 2007. The attraction opened in Florida on May 31, 2008 — and it opened as “Toy Story Midway Mania!”
Somewhere along the way, “Midway” was dropped from the name and not we know it as “Toy Story Mania!”
On March 5, 2015, Disney announced plans to expand the Hollywood Studios ride to improve capacity due to high demand and popularity by adding a third track.
With the opening of Toy Story Land on June 30, 2018 a new entrance to Toy Story Mania! was opened inside the new land. The old entrance was closed and converted to emergency exits.
Other Fun Details
- Each mini game includes at least one “Easter egg” that can trigger additional targets or gameplay changes.
- The Mr. Potato Head animatronic that interacts with guests is voiced by late comedian Don Rickles, who actually voiced the character for the Toy Story film franchise.
- If the ride temporarily stops while guests are on it, the control system will trigger a non-scoring practice round, so guests can continue to shoot targets while they wait.
